HS Kids: London/Grasmere/Stratford/
Brevi lezioni interattive e di ricerca personale (2 ore) la mattina ci aiuteranno a capire al meglio ciò che vedremo insieme nelle nostre passeggiate o visite guidate ai musei e davanti ai monumenti. Poi spesso saranno i ragazzi stessi a fare le guide!
Le Nostre 4 tappe for you!
1. Londra (July 18th-24th)
Vivremo un’esperienza completamente immersiva, tra arte, letteratura, architettura e lingua inglese. Scopriremo la città attraverso dei walking tours, parchi e luoghi simbolo. A piccoli gruppi, i ragazzi faranno delle ricerche ed esploreranno i monumenti più importanti per poi raccontarli (in inglese!) e presentarli al resto del gruppo. Sentiremo un coro al St Paul’s Cathedral. Assisteremo agli spettacoli di Shakespeare nel famoso teatro del Globe (avremo preparato i testi insieme in modo che i ragazzi possano seguire bene!). Visiteremo dei musei, con qualche visita guidata/interattiva, o sperimenteremo l’architettura di questa meravigliosa città, da Christopher Wren ai contemporanei, scrivendo sempre le nostre impressioni. Londra sarà così non solo una meta da visitare, ma una vera esperienza culturale e linguistica, da vivere e condividere insieme. giorno dopo giorno.
2. Stratford-upon-Avon (July 24th-27th)
Stratford-upon-Avon è una simpatica cittadina sul fiume Avon e paese natale di Shakespeare.
Vivremo insieme questa bellissima cittadina rinascimentale e la vita quotidiana ai tempi di Shakespeare. Visiteremo lì il grammar school di Shakespeare e li assisteremo anche ad una lezione elisabettiana. Passeggiando, vedremo tanti esemplari dell’idiosincratica architettura Tudor ( per il quale Stratford è noto) e ognuno ragazzo commenterà (in inglese, of course!) il suo preferito.
Visiteremo la casa di Shakespeare, piena di attori itineranti divertenti.
Ci rilasseremo nei bellissimi giardini di Shakespeare ed faremo una gita sul fiume di Avon
Poi, I ragazzi diventeranno sia registi che attori e metteremo su una nostra piccola performance informale (sempre in inglese!) per poi andare a vedere lo stesso spettacolo al famoso Royal Shakespeare Theatre.
3. Grasmere (July 27th-30th)
Già in viaggio in treno da Stratford a Grasmere vedremo tanti bellissimi paesaggi inglesi.
Grasmere, un simpatico English village medievale, si trova nel meraviglioso distretto dei laghi ed è il paese del padre della poesia inglese moderna, William Wordsworth; la sua estetica di una poesia democratica, diretta e semplice, si presta proprio ai nostri ragazzi.
Faremo delle passeggiate nelle campagne di Wordsworth, con delle nuotate nelle sorgenti naturali,
e passeggeremo anche in un giardino ideato e creato da lui.
Visiteremo le sue due case, una Dove Cottage (del ‘600), moto semplice e umile e l’altra molto più grande (del ‘700) con prati e tanti sentieri e giochi all’aperto tradizionali inglesi ((giocheremo anche noi!), in più una caccia al tesoro coi fiori presenti nelle sue poesie.
Scopriremo anche il villaggio di Grasmere noto per la sua chiesa e, dall’ ‘800, per il suo gingerbread, tipico dolce inglese che assaggeremo insieme.
4. Cambridge (July 30th – July 31st)
Cambridge, famosa cittadina universitaria di origine medievale che unisce studio, bellezza e tranquillità, è la nostra ultima tappa! Vivremo la nostra giornata qui come veri studenti di Cambridge. Visiteremo dei college e due delle biblioteche più belle (una medievale e una rinascimentale), luoghi in cui i ragazzi vivono e studiano. Nel pomeriggio andremo a praticare lo sport tradizionale e preferito degli studenti di Cambridge: punting sul fiume Cam. Prenderemo le barche e faremo una gita sul fiume..
Il mattino dopo, saluteremo Cambridge con calma e partiremo per il vicino aeroporto di Stansted. (circa una mezz’ora in treno)
I nostri home base: gli alloggi
London: YHA St. Paul’s Come tutti i nostri alloggi fa vivere direttamente ai nostri ragazzi la storia dell’architettura inglese. Oggi un bellissimo (e centralissimo) ostello, è stato progettato da un architetto vittoriano famoso come scuola di canto per i coristi di Saint Paul’s, noto sopratutto per la sua facciata barocca.
Stratford-upon-Avon: YHA Stratford-upon-Avon Ospitato in un’elegante residenza georgiana con un ampio parco, l’ostello (pluripremiato) si trova in una zona tranquilla, a breve distanza dal centro di Stratford-upon-Avon.
Grasmere: YHA Grasmere Butharlyp Howe E’ una grande villa vittoriana che conserva ancora arredi simpatici d’epoca, immersa nel verde del Lake District e situato a pochi minuti dal centro di Grasmere. Offre un ambiente tranquillo, ideale per esplorare la natura e i sentieri cari a Wordsworth .
Cambridge: YHA Cambridge è un ostello accogliente e centrale, situato in un edificio di epoca vittoriana, a pochi minuti a piedi dalla stazione e dal centro città. E’ la base ideale per esplorare l’Università di Cambridge e il fiume Cam.
I costi
Il costo del soggiorno HS London/Stratford-Upon-Avon/Grasmere/Cambridge sarà di 2.850 euro ed è onnicomprensivo. La quota include: vitto (tranne due cene fuori), alloggio, volo aereo, trasporti all’interno dell’ Inghilterra (in treno), lezioni e visite, ingressi, visite guidate, materiale didattico, spettacoli ecc. Sono esclusi gli spostamenti a Londra con la metropolitana (the tube);, tanto ci muoveremo principalmente a piedi) e l’assicurazione. Il costo complessivo per metropolitana e assicurazione dovrebbe essere di circa 85 euro a ragazzo.)
Per i nuovi soci, è prevista una quota associativa di 35 euro da versare una sola volta: poi i vostri ragazzi saranno soci a vita!
Per chi si iscrive entro il 31 marzo è previsto uno sconto di 100 euro.
Our Humanities Spring London method
Humanities Spring in London is a full-immersion travel study program in which students get a direct, firsthand experience of London, Grasmere & the beautiful Lake District, Cambridge and Stratford-upon-Avon, Both in the classroom — when we are reading texts or writing mini-compositions about what students have seen that day — and out — relaxing in a royal garden, on a HS tour of a museum, sitting on the steps of St. Paul’s Cathedral, strolling along the lake so dear to Wordsworth or through one of London’s charming outdoor markets, conversation is at the heart of the Humanities Spring experience.
Informal classes in English conversation continue all day until 7:00 (dinner and relax time!) Everyplace we visit, whether it is St. James’ Park or the British Museum, each student will be asked to say a few sentences in English about their impressions to the rest of the group (don’t worry, staff will help you!). It is lots of fun! This way, we all learn together and students improve their English at the same time.
Excursions will include: London’s squares, bridges, Tower, but also the Thames River with the experimental Milennium bridge and, of course, London’s wonderful neighbourhoods, The Houses of Parliament, Camden Town, Portobello Road, St Paul’s Cathedral etc…We’ll take a walk through London’s famous Gardens and parks: especially St James (which Virginia Woolf loved and wrote about) but also Hyde Park and Regent’s Park. Last but not least, we’ll visit many museums: The Tate British, Tate Modern, National Gallery, British Museum (several Museum tours and a wonderful Talk and Draw Session at the National Gallery) and, if we have time, the Courtauld Gallery.
London home-base: Palmer’s Lodge Hostel, an elegant, renovated Victorian home
On April 26, we board the train for Grasmere (about a five- hour ride).
A Day at HS London …
8.30 HS breakfast all together –croissant, coffee, juice, cereals, fruit, etc
9:00 — 11:00 HS Classes — conversation, readings , mini-composition and memorization
12:00 National Gallery HS guided tour
1.30 Picnic lunch in St James’ Park
3:00- 5:00 HS walking tour : Houses of Parliament, Westminster Abbey, Big Ben and London Eye.
Return to the hostel for a rest (free time)
7:00 Ferry to the Tate Modern and evening visit of the museum
8:30 Dinner all together at the “The Anchor Pub”, on the banks of the Thames and near the Tate
10:30: back at the hostel .. time to sleep .
